Finding Inspiration at Fantasy Fantasy — Supporting Artists and Creative Community
In early June 2026, I attended the opening of Fantasy Fantasy at Saint Cloche gallery in Paddington, NSW, Australia.
As an artist, I believe it's important not only to create work but also to actively engage with the wider creative community. Attending exhibitions provides an opportunity to experience new ideas, support fellow artists and stay connected to the evolving conversations happening within contemporary art.
The highlight of the exhibition for me was meeting Elliott Routledge, whose practice I have admired for many years. Elliott's ability to combine abstraction, geometry, colour and use of the ‘smiley face’ logo has created a distinctive visual language that continues to evolve while remaining unmistakably his own.
Walking through the exhibition, I was reminded of the importance of exposing yourself to great art. While much of an artist's life is spent alone in the studio, moments like these offer valuable perspective. They provide an opportunity to step outside your own work, appreciate the achievements of others and reconnect with the broader creative ecosystem that supports and nurtures artistic growth.
The opening itself was filled with energy. Collectors, artists, curators, friends and art lovers gathered to celebrate the exhibition, creating the kind of atmosphere that makes Sydney's contemporary art scene so exciting. Conversations flowed easily as people shared their interpretations of the work and connected through a shared appreciation of creativity.
For me, attending exhibitions is never simply about viewing art. It's about investing in the community that makes artistic practice possible. Supporting galleries, showing up for fellow artists and participating in these cultural moments strengthens the networks that allow creativity to thrive.
Leaving Fantasy Fantasy, I felt inspired not only by the work on the walls but by the reminder that art exists within a community of makers, supporters and advocates. Experiences like this reinforce why I continue to paint, exhibit and engage with the contemporary art world. They remind me that creative journeys are rarely solitary and that some of the most valuable inspiration comes from celebrating the success and vision of others.
As my own practice continues to evolve, I look forward to attending more exhibitions, discovering new artists and supporting the vibrant community that makes Sydney such an exciting place to create and exhibit contemporary art.
